Battery Hill Mining Centre - Tennant Creek

Today we went to the Battery Hill Mining Centre and went through the history museum and the mineral museum as well as doing the underground mine tour.

These little Spinifex Pigeons where near the verandah.

Large piece of hematite at the entrance of the mine with a seam of gold.

It all started in the 1930 when gold was discovered setting off Australia's last gold rush. The Tennant Creek discovery came at the right time for Australia, the economic depression was at it's worst and the nation desperately needed the export earnings and the employment which the field was to generate.

This is the site of the Government No 3 stamp battery, a 10 head stamp battery
